Sean O’Sullivans Critical Reflection Attempt Essay Example for Free

Sean O’Sullivans Critical Reflection Attempt Essay Basic intelligent composing investigates different individual encounters by examining the social, political and social setting that theyre written in. They empower authors to comprehend their qualities and predispositions. Through a relative investigation of writings I can fundamentally break down the mode, sort, register, structure, crowd and setting. The writings â€Å"Transmutations Scientist (A progressive bio-building socio-logical role)† and â€Å"The Parrot and the Pot Bellied Pig† are two writings I have decided to think about. Because of the distinction in class both of these natural writings are astounding instances of new age bits of writing in the English kind. Moreover I have likewise consolidated my content â€Å"Rapunzel Shaves for Leukaemia† to communicate comparable printed similitudes and to additionally show my advancement in proficient composition. Through the possibility of the sarcastic and story class in bodily form, authors can acquaint responders with a hyperbolized comprehension of various topics through a comedic nature. â€Å"The Parrot and the Potbellied Pig† is a humorous, invented short story that is one of numerous from the novel â€Å"Squirrel looks for chipmunk† by creator David Sedaris. Sedaris being a fruitful humorist and radio giver had an aim to keep in touch with an accomplished crowd who appreciatesâ humorous tales and the ridiculous thought of creatures in peculiar grown-up circumstances. Through Sedaris’ utilization of Animal portrayal he opens up a scope of thoughts and subjects that is impossible if genuine people were to be utilized. Through this method characters are decontextualized and generalizations related with these characters are featured. Sedaris’ (2010) â€Å"What truly drives me is the cash. That, and the free alcohol. † (p. 119) quote proposes the Parrot is a cliché alcoholic writer, yet through the allegorical utilization of the ‘Parrot symbol’ as opposed to a genuine human, the thought is smothered and seen as a hilari ous structure of writing as opposed to an individual assault on ones calling. Creator Sedaris likewise endeavors to consolidate a scope of issues into his tale. Media emotionalism and prejudice are two fundamental subjects communicated in the content, through the shrewd portrayal and circumstance of the story; these issues are brought into the light through an alternate edge of class. The creator shows the characters, for example, the Parrot and the Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pig to imitate the characters of bona fide genuine people. â€Å"I see the,† the parrot stated, and she scratched the word â€Å"self detesting in her note pad†. (Sedaris, 2010, p. 121. ) Is a case of media drama communicated through the Parrot as she deciphers the Pigs answer to her inquiry dishonestly and with a lot of inclination. What's more the subject of prejudice is unmistakably introduced through the Pig, â€Å"He had been full all through his childhood, and the long stretches of ridiculing had formed his grown-up life as well as distorted it† (Sedaris, 2010, p. 123. ) in spite of the fact that this from the outset may appear to be an issue of self-perception, I trust it incorporates racial undertones, recommending the bigotry of the Americans towards the Vietnamese since the times of the Vietnam War. In saying this Sedaris had the option to escape this thought because of the creature portrayal of the heroes. Taking everything into account the authors utilization of metaphor complements the general subject of the content â€Å"Pot Bellied Pig† being the undeniable model stretches out a plan to the crowd, in this way making the content a type of diversion through its ironical nature. Using explicit language highlights and silly undertones the content â€Å"Transmutations Scientist† mirrors â€Å"The Parrot and the Potbellied Pig† albeit every content is an alternate kind. This content is seen as a promotion despite the fact that it is of an invented nature. Through this type crossover from work notice an individual can truly observe a perplexing point of view the creator has used to make such a content. The ‘Transmutations Scientist’ utilizes progressively formal language suitable to the class of a commercial. This proper language is additionally accentuated using logical language utilized in the piece; â€Å"mutation†, â€Å"micromanipulation† and â€Å"conditioning† are case of this kind of language utilized by the creator. Despite the fact that the language exhibits a mind boggling register for this sythesis, the genuine reason for existing is to engage crowds along these lines â€Å"The Parrot and the Potbellied Pig† does. In this manner, utilizing the language highlight of ‘jargon’ the crowd is qualified to show in the comedic idea of the content. Likewise in â€Å"The Parrot and the Potbellied Pig† every content are introduced as mocking sytheses. Also the two writings are expected for a knowledgeable crowd who value a kind of diversion where they would need to think basically so as to comprehend the writers intentions. All in all the content â€Å"Transmutations Scientist† matches comparable language highlights to the main content â€Å"The Parrot and the Potbellied Pig† through this crowds are given a more noteworthy comprehension of the writers thought processes and impetuses. Through basically break down a specific book, another imaginative piece can rise into an alternate classification. My content â€Å"Rapunzel Shaves for Leukaemia† exhibits a structure that has similitudes to â€Å"Transmutations Scientist†; every content has a fantasy register that has been appropriated into another type structure. â€Å"Popular supermodel Rapunzel participated in the ‘Worlds Greatest Shave’ development to fund-raise for the Leukemia establishment of Far Away. â€Å" (Appendix 7. ) As appeared in this statement, it is clear I have made an understood progress between a fantasy and an authentic certifiable occasion. Furthermore, I have LEGITIMATE FACTS INTO MY TEXT â€Å"EACH DAY AN AVERAGE OF 30 INDIVIDUALS WILL BE GIVEN THE DEVASTATING NEWS THAT THEY HAVE Leukemia, LYMPHOMA, MYELOMA OR A RELATED BLOOD DISORDER† (APPENDIX 7. ) THROUGH THE USE OF THIS TECHNIQUE, I CAN INFORM READERS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF A SOCIAL ISSUE AS WELL AS ENTERTAINING THROUGH THE USE OF HUMOR. Despite the fact that THIS IMAGINATIVE PIECE OF WRITING ISN’T as dependable a the others as it was composed at my own hand It despite everything had various trustworthy language highlights permitting the piece to pass on its essential message, to engage. A book can investigate various thoughts and subjects, in this manner making it toâ be a tenable bit of composing. ‘The Parrot and the Potbellied Pig’ shows outrageous ironical view on social issues, while engaging responders. ‘The Transmutations Scientist’ joins language highlights, for example, language and blends in with fantasy undertones to make a successful advert to humor crowds. Taking everything into account my content ‘Rapunzel Shaves for Leukaemia’ doesn’t incorporate the auxiliary fortification of trustworthy writings it shows that the change of a book can prompt more prospects of sort. Every content includes a wide scope of viewpoints that can be investigated all together toâ transform a creation into a solid and intentional bit of work. APA Reference List: O’Sullivan, S. (2014). All things considered, concerning capacity to focus and some other subjective capacities inside newborn children, there gives off an impression of being a reaction to separating boosts which shows that relying upon what is utilized to pick up their consideration and keep up it shifts from baby to baby. One examination specifically was done on newborn children to increase a thought on what holds and keeps their ability to focus, with this one relating to what impacts synchronized lighting has on babies (Colombo and Richman 2002, p. 475). This examination demonstrated that newborn children paid regard for the coordinated lighting impact as their pulse was found to increment in an example when the lights would gleam at explicit occasions. This obviously indicated despite the fact that babies aren't alert and entirely centered around each lifeless thing that they interact with a portion of these different improvements have a more significant effect than others. Besides, this one examination had the option to pinpoint the way that newborn children appear to have the specific capacity as grown-up individuals to have the option to time precisely when a light recreation is going to occur, which shows that they can monitor time when it is with respect to reproductions of examples. This in itself gives a positive thought of how significant ability to focus is in babies as it is one of the key components in contiguity learning inside the early instructiv e procedure (Colombo and Richman 2002, p. 477). In the past it was assumed that newborn children have an exceptionally limited ability to focus yet as more research has been completed it is presently being addressed exactly how short their consideration truly is. The explanation this is expressed is on the grounds that, much the same as the past test referenced, this next investigation demonstrated that infants may really be able to recognize attributes of including and taking away, obviously with brief arrangement of numbers (Wakeley et al 2000, p. 1525). At the point when a baby is indicated a presentation of a perceptual sort their ability to focus is by all accounts increasingly centered, particularly if the components in the showcase are in the measure of three's, however no greater sum than four. This apparently invalidates the conviction that newborn children considerations length is short as it is being demonstrated this fluctuates relying on what the infant is being given to contemplate and investigate (Wakeley et al 2000, p. 1526). However, I strongly believe that the advent of televised entertainment has not had a negative effect on interpersonal communication. I feel this way for two main reasons, which I will explore in the following essay. To begin with, I contend that television actually helps people to have more meaningful conversations. In the past, people mostly talked about what they had in common. Often, talk of th is sort was quite limited because people lived fairly simple lives. These days, in contrast, individuals can enjoy spirited discussions about the wide array of current events and world affairs that they hear about on television every day. For example, I have a regular Friday lunch date with my work colleagues at a local restaurant. We do talk about office affairs, but most of our conversations are about the wide world around us which we learn about from watching television. We talk about everything from political developments in distant countries to sports results from entirely different continents. I strongly believe that without television to supply us with topics, my colleagues and I would talk mainly about banal office gossip. Secondly, I am of the opinion that television has mostly replaced solitary activities, rather than replacing interactions with others. It appears that television has mainly taken the place of hobbies like reading and exercising. My own experience is compel ling evidence of this. I grew up in a very rural area without access to stable television signals, and as a resultI spent most of my free time reading books and magazines. When I started university, however, I moved to a big city and suddenly had access to one hundred channels. Almost immediately, watching shows and movies replaced reading as my primary hobby. I now read almost no books, but as I indicated in the above paragraph I still have meaningful conversations with friends on a regular basis. In conclusion, I disagree with the idea that the advent of television has harmed communication between friends and family. I feel this way because television supplies us with a variety of topics which we can discuss with our friends, and because television-watching has mostly replaced solitary hobbies rather than social activities.

Fat To Fit: Young Adults, General Health Programs (Essay Sample) Content: Fat to fit; Young AdultsName of student;Institution;Course;Date;General Health ProgramsThe cardiorespiratory program is a program that every trainer considers as a very important training. Cardiorespiratory programs differ with age. In this situation, the age that is taking the general health program is young adults of age 20-30 who have a passion for training and keeping fitness. The general health program is a program that mainly fit best for beginners in the program. The program will help people in losing weight ad keeping normal fitness. This exercise will be done very regular for people participating to adapt to it and choose whether they want to continue other forms of cardiorespiratory programs. The program will be done four times every week. The more frequent the exercise will be done the better the people will recover from any overweight and maintain the fitness discipline and commitment is required for every participant.During the duration of four times in a week the intensity of the exercise will vary from the start of the exercise to how it will end. Since most of the people in the program will be beginners, the intensity of the training will be less tough in the first week, and it will intensify slowly with time up to the tie all the people will adapt, and towards the end, it will be highly tense with hard training. The total amount of training each day will be 2-3 hours for the first three weeks and 4-5 hours after the three weeks. This will give time for the people to adjust and adapt to the training. The training will take the form of a combination of both the resistance and cardiovascular training. At the beginning of the exercise, I will utilize the resistance training program. To be specific, the resistance band and free weight loss will be the main activities after a warm-up of about 30 minutes after a period of 3-4 weeks according to how the people in training will have adopted. I will then start changing to cardiovascular tra ining. The cardiovascular training that I will mainly use is swimming, jogging, and aerobics. There are many challenges that cardiorespiratory programs face. To begin with, it is not easy to adapt to a training session of three to four times a week. Many people who sign up for this program end up giving up on the second week. Many of this people complain that they feel pain all over their bodies. The other challenge is a lack of discipline in training. Many people want to do what they feel like and change the program. This makes it tough to achieve the goals that are set at the beginning of the training.

Kristin Brown Co President and Chief Strategy Officer of the Brady Campaign. The Brady campaign aims at preventing gun violence by promoting policies that will keep guns out of the hands of Americans. It was founded by Jim and Sarah Brady in 1974. Jim was Ronald Reagans press secretary and after he was shot, he and his wife devoted the rest of their lives to do something about gun violence. In 1993 the Brady bill was passed. It required background checks on people purchasing firearms, along with a five-day waiting period on purchases. Kris Brown started her career on Capitol Hill working for congressman, Jim Moran. She then earned her law degree and worked as a regulatory and litigation lawyer. Now, she oversees strategy and management of the Brady Campaign. Working towards expanding background checks, limiting gun dealers, and educating the public on gun dangers. Correa 2 Wayne LaPierre Executive vice president of the National Rifle Association. The NRA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for gun rights and advocates for and against gun legislation. After obtaining a masters degree in government from Boston College, LaPierre entered the lobbying industry and in 1977, joined the NRA as a 28-year-old. LaPierre has also served on the boards of directors of the American Association of Political Consultants, American Conservative Union, and Center for the Study of Popular Culture and the National Fish Wildlife Foundation. He is also the author of Safe: How to Protect Yourself, Your Family, and Your Home, The Global War on Your Guns: Inside the UN Plan to Destroy the Bill of Rights and The Essential Second Amendment Guide (Garrett). Introduction San Diego City College is hosting a panel event. They have invited Kris Brown from the Brady campaign, a gun control activist. Along with Wayne LaPierre, head of the NRA, and a gun rights activist. We have head of history and political science, professor Daveed as a guest as well as a student named, Gabriel as our mediator. The guests will be giving their thoughts and opinions on where the United States currently stands on gun control/gun rights and what we should be doing differently to prevent gun violence. Gabriel [Walks onto stage and sits on the right of Wayne LaPierre, Professor Daveed, and Kristin Brown, who are sitting in that order] Hello, San Diego City College! How are you guys? [Response from crowd] Good, good. The turnout is amazing, I can see people squeezed in all   around the sides of the room and along the walls, while that might not be too comfortable, its great in terms of numbers and the amount of people that have come out to listen to this very   Correa 3 important debate, which does make sense because we have our very own Professor Daveed on the panel today. He is our department chair of History and Political Science. We have Kris Brown with us, Co President of the Brady Campaign and Wayne LaPierre, head of the National Rifle Association. [Turns his attention toward guests] Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedules to be here today. It is very much appreciated and I think were all equally as excited for the conversation we are having today. Professor Daveed Thank you, Gabe for thinking of me and bringing me into this panel. Im honored to be sitting here with the both of you (Kris and Wayne) who are the faces of two of the largest gun nonprofits. Also Gabe, I appreciate the shout-out. Thank you for not making me feel like a meager participation trophy next to these two. Gabe- ha-ha, youre so much more than that Professor, I would never Also, theres still time for my grade to be brought down, so I couldnt. Professor Daveed Funny. Kris Brown [Interjects] Ive got to say Gabriel, I feel just as honored to be here. To be able to share my thoughts and opinions on gun control in a room full of young men and women is really something. So, thank you for reaching out and having me. Wayne LaPierre Yes, I too appreciate the opportunity. We have serious discussions ahead and serious issues that impact each and every one of us. Correa 4 Gabe Yes, we definitely do. We have all heard of the mass shootings and the rallies, the protests, and calls for stricter gun laws, some even going as far as changing the Second Amendment or creating additional gun rights. There has been extensive media coverage on the issue, as well as in schools, making sure kids know the procedure if a shooting were to occur. It seems the debate hasnt settled down, it has only been fueled by more gun violence, those who are hungry for change, and others who strongly disagree with the proposed additions and/or restrictions to gun laws. So, my question for you guys is: Would universal background checks and a ban on assault-style rifles reduce gun violence in the United States? Professor Daveed Ill go first. I really like your question. I feel like its come the closest to actually being a part of the real conversation, and could eventually lead to passing legislation. I say this, because earlier like you mentioned, many people speak about rewriting the second amendment and I feel that that will never in a million years happen. Heres why. Americans are very proud. As Americans, I think we pride ourselves in having the Constitution and having rights that set us apart from other countries, so much so that sometimes we let that get in the way of realizing when something just isnt working. Im not saying that I am against gun rights, because Im not, but I do think that the laws we have set in place are letting ill people slip through the cracks, leading to many casualties and hurt families. So, to answer your question I would say that stricter gun laws would be a fair compromise for people who do depend on hunting or even enjoy sport shooting. There wont be a buyback program stripping individuals of their firearms or a change in the Bill of Rights, just a lengthier process to purchase a gun.   Correa 5 is how it should be if you know the severity that a bullet can cause, and if you are in fact only using a gun for the right reasons, you should be just fine. Wayne LaPierre Its not that Americans are proud, Professor. We are simply standing up for our rights, the same rights that have stood for hundreds of years. The Second Amendment clearly states that A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Now, in the 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller case, the Supreme Court translated the Second Amendment into its intended meaning, ruling that it protects an individuals right to bear arms, and not just a National Guards (Berman). The dilemma here is that its a fact that blame is being shifted onto the NRA and guns instead of the people committing the acts. It is society that is fundamentally flawed. It is our values and morals, not guns. Guns are not committing crimes, people are. Kris Brown I think that that is precisely the problem Mr. LaPierre, the second amendment has been in place since 1791. Times have changed, we no longer use muskets or revolvers that hold less than six rounds. Technology has surged forward, I dont have to tell you how many kinds of guns we have now or how many bullets can be held in a single magazine with bump stocks that allow bullets to fire at twice the speed, allowing for mass casualties. But, changing the second amendment isnt apart of the conversation. So, I wont go any farther than that. The real question is about more restrictions and making the process of purchasing a gun more accurate and safe. Thats apart of the Brady three tier goal. Our goal is to cut gun deaths in half. How we plan on doing that is through expanding the Brady bill to cover all gun sales. Something that   Correa 6 about 94% of American agree with, because currently 1 in 5 guns are sold without background checks. Also, for those who dont know the Brady bill mandated background checks. The   second goal is to ban the sale of all assault-style weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines. The third is to enact extreme risk laws. Meaning laws that allow family members and law enforcement to seek a protective order to remove firearms from someone at risk of hurting themselves or others. Professor Daveed Im very curious, What is stopping us from being able to expand the Brady bill? As you mentioned before 94% of Americans agree with that, so whats the hold up? Kris Brown Unfortunately, we have our answer in the politics of America today. The NRA contributed or lobbied about $50 million to get President Trump elected under a pro NRA agenda and many members of Congress, so although the polls clearly show support, Congress just isnt acting. What we have done over time, has been to get the states approval. We now have twenty states that have passed expansions of the Brady background through ballets, not their legislatures. Wayne LaPierre Yes Mrs. Brown, we do lobby. It is our way of giving back and supporting congressmen and women who deserve a seat in Senate and the House of Representatives. The NRA spends money, but so do dozens of organizations and causes. NRA money is not why gun control efforts are failing. We have only spent about $203 million since 1998. T hat figure is even smaller than it looks when you consider 30 percent of Americans, or about 100 million people, own a gun. By contrast, Wall Street and the broader financial industrial shelled out more than   Correa 7 $1.1 billion in the 2016 election cycle alone. The bulk of that $203 million doesnt actually go to candidates. Its spent on those issue ads that you see mostly on cable news channels during election years. Fewer than 20 percent of American gun owners are even NRA members. We give the beliefs of gun owners a voice, rather than frame what they should believe. The real power is with those voting gun owners, not the lobby group. We support regulations on bump stocks. However, we do not support expanding firearm background checks or banning certain guns. We instead urge Congress to loosen gun restrictions, along with passing the Concealed Carry Reciprocity, which would require states to recognize concealed carry permits from other states. Banning guns from law-abiding Americans based on the criminal act of a madman will do nothing to prevent future attacks. If we have more good people armed, then we could stop the crazy people with guns. Professor Daveed You dont think stricter gun laws would prevent future attacks? What about Australia? Or the U.K.? Just entertain the thought, because many countries have had mass shootings, and tightened their gun laws shortly after in order to prevent any further losses. The 1996 Port Arthur Massacre in Australia resulted in a man killing 35 people, and wounding over 24 with a semi-automatic rifle. Two weeks later firearms were regulated. The National Agreement on Firearms was put into effect, which prohibited automatic and semi-automatic assault rifles, mandated licensing and registration, and instituted a temporary buyback program that took about 650,000 assault weapons out of public circulation. It also required licenses to   Correa 8 demonstrate a genuine need for a particular type of gun, as well as taking a firearm safety course. In the U.K. something similar happened, as well as in Canada and Norway. When tragedy struck it was followed by change. Right now in the U.S. at the age of 18 you can purchase rifles, shotguns, and ammunition but have to be over 21 to purchase all other firearms like handguns. And, in most states you can even carry a concealed gun in public. Did you also know that (speaking to audience) background checks are only required in eleven states since the Brady Bill expired in (1968-) 1998 and was never picked up by most states. Same with the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons ban that expired in 2004. The ban was signed by President Bill Clinton and outlawed nineteen kinds of military style-assault weapons, never being signed by Congress again. Furthermore, most states do bar selling guns to high risk individuals, including felons, people with a mental illness history, fugitives, drug users, individuals with restraining orders against them, people who have given up their citizenship, dishonorably discharged military personnel, unauthorized migrants, and tourists. The U.S. depends on the NICS/FBI database for these background checks, which many times exclude crucial information that could indicate a risk. Last bit of information, I promise. There have been over 93 mass shootings since 1982, 42 of those occurring after Sandy Hook. The other 51 never exceeded 32 deaths in one case, while a single shooting in 2017 caused 58 fatalities, exceeding Columbine, Sandy Hook, Texas Baptist Church, Parkland High School, A Thousand Oaks nightclub, and the Orlando nightclub massacre that killed 49 people.

Mark Antony A Righteous Avenger Or Ruthless Opportunist

Mark Rekutin, Period 8 Question: Mark Antony: A righteous avenger or ruthless opportunist? Shakti Gawain once said, You create opportunities by asking for them. In Shakespeare’s â€Å"Julius Caesar,† Mark Antony can be described as one who changes his approach to the conspirators and Caesar’s death, questioning his trust. A ruthless opportunist can be described as one who adjusts his values in a certain situation for a certain purpose, uses others for his gain, and does not consider the principles or consequences. Whether it was his persuasion or his passion, Antony knew how to win a crowd and how to manipulate those involved in Caesar’s death such as the conspirators for his own purpose: to gain power. Mark Antony, therefore, can be described as a ruthless opportunist, seeking whatever it may be that will grant him power from the death of Julius Caesar. Two reasons to categorize Mark Antony as a ruthless opportunist was his intention to undermine others and the content in Caesa r’s will, which in Act III he used to instigate sympathy among the people, claiming that he would deliver all the valuables (3.2.240-252). However, in the following act as he has gained power through the leadership of Rome, Mark Antony attempts to figure out a way to cut down what he used as sympathy, claiming, â€Å"Fetch the will hither, and we shall determine/How to cut off some charge in legacies,† (4.1.8-9). These lines demonstrate how after appealing to the audience with ethos, Antony uses this for

The Face Of Our Nation - 870 Words

The latter half of the 19th century ushered in growth and change that we still live with in the 21st century. We became an industrial powerhouse in an era of unbridled capitalism. The face of our nation was transformed from an economic culture steeped in agriculture to an economic culture steeped in industry and technology. We were connected coast to coast via railroad and were able to communicate by telegraph and new inventions included the telephone. Travel and communication were accelerated; manufacturing and retail provided new jobs, and lands became accessible that eventually became sprawling communities. Economic forces fed off of each, other causing growth to spiral upward. Some benefitted more than others and there were winners and there were losers. In 1607 the first settlers dreams and visions of a new world came to fruition in the latter 19th century. With our country being connected coast-to-coast via railroad and telegraph, what once took up to six months now took six days and messages could be sent in minutes because of electricity. Our first factory, a spinning mill, built in Lowell, Massachusetts, sparked the Industrial Revolution. Around 1870 Andrew Carnegie launched the industrial revolution in steel, by successfully using the Bessemer process to create steel (Hughes Cain 2011, p. 209). Aliison from the Millers Tale Chauser Essay Example For Students

Aliison from the Millers Tale Chauser Essay Eighteen-year-old Alison is one of the main characters in The Millers Tale. She is married by arrangement to a much older man, a carpenter named John. Alisons youth is displayed in her appearance and actions. She feels she is too young to be married to an older man and should be out having fun and enjoying her life. This causes her to be carefree and to present herself to other men in ways inappropriate coming from a married woman. Geoffrey Chauser describes her in the way of nature. The actions produced by Alison in The Millers Tale portrays her as an immature youth who is not adult enough to be involved in any relationship, let alone a marriage, although the way that Geoffrey Chauser describes her with nature is to be an innocent bystander in all that is going on around her. In The Millers Tale Chauser refers to Alison as many forms of nature. Nature possibly represents the innocents that she wants to portray. Alison is considered to be a newly budded young pear tree signifying her youthful vibrancy and causing men to consider her desirable. She was a primerole, a piggesnye, for any lord to leggen in his bedde, pg 93, ln 160 tells us to have pity on her because she is young and should not be married to such an old man. She is a rose at its full bloom, and by being married so young to this much older man makes it seem that she loses this full bloom. He also defines her joyous singing as a swallow sitting on a shed singing its hearts desire. This says that she has no cares in the world and she feels free in her youth to do what she wants to do. By saying Winsing she was as is a joly colt pg 93, ln 155 shows is her immature, high-spirited excitement for life. Alisons husband considers her to be delicate and rarely lets her out on her own in fear that other men will go after her. When she does end up going to town she shows off her petit frame, wearing a girdle to make her waist look even smaller, she wears low cut shirts to show off her collarbone and keeps her forehead very shiny, plucking her eyebrows to high arches. She takes great pride in her looks and wears only the best silk fashions. She has boots that lace up to her thighs; all which are considered to be attractive to men. Her smile can melt the heart of any man. As Alison is a married woman she is considered untouchable to men although they try, this is where courtly love is involved. Nicholas, a scholar who lives with Alison and John, and a man named Absolum are both in love with her. She has no desire to be with Absolum. Nicholas on the other hand is more Alisons age. She teases him by calling out no when her actions are really saying  yes. She allows his hands to wander wherever he wants them to but there is no kissing allowed. She is very afraid that her husband will find out and that he will have her killed because of it. Due to her youth and forced marriage Alison becomes promiscuous. She proves to be very dishonest to John by lying and plotting with Nicholas ways that she could cheat on John. John is a very naÃÆ' ¯ve man and believes anything that is told to him, especially if it involves God. Nicholas tells him that God is going to flood the earth just as he did with Noah, and that being a carpenter he should to go and make a boat for himself, Nicholas and Alison. Being the honorable husband that he is, he tells Alison what Nicholas told him and she puts on an act pretending to be frightened for her life and tells him to hurry off and keep her safe, and he does just that. This proves that she is very dishonest for lying to John. She feels no guilt knowing that her husband loves her and that she cheats on him. Even though she does all of these dishonest things, in the end, she is the only character in the tale that doesnt have something bad happen to them. .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b , .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .postImageUrl , .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b , .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b:hover , .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b:visited , .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b:active { border:0!important; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b:active , .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u98624c0f8495d492c6bc60d0484ef36b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The portion you read culminates with a Major Crux: What does tearing the pardon mean? EssayIf it were not for Geoffrey Chauser telling us that Alison is the innocent one in this poem, it would be very hard to realize this if we just based it on her actions. Though she is married, she is still young and still has much of her life to live. Being tied down just proves to be a big inconvenience to her and she dose not have to choice to love that she desires. Because she cannot help but be desirable to other men, all her actions are to be forgiven in the end.

System Analysis and Design Documentatio Essays

System Analysis and Design Documentatio Essays System Analysis and Design Documentatio Essay System Analysis and Design Documentatio Essay Introduction The computer is most likely one of the great technologies ever invented. Nowadays, people tend to see the future with computers in it. Presently computers have influenced the society and they do more than simply compute. Computers can now be on office tool and commonly used in businesses. More complex information can be collected and explored with the use of computer-based information system. Information technology nowadays, invaded the workplace and served modern corporations a proficient infrastructure. Due to futuristic ideas of people, they tend to use an information system to their businesses. Some even pay a high amount of money in order to obtain an information system. Though in reality futuristic ideas of people or company owners is only one of the few reasons why people choose to have an information system. There are many businesses that play a vital role in the society. And the researchers focus on Health care, specifically Dental Health care. According to Ardee Joy’s thesis regarding a patient information system that whether information is handwritten or entered electronically, the medical orders become a part of a patient is very important for dental records are mostly gathered when a person dies. Health care is the preservation of mental and physical health by preventing or treating illness through services offered by the health professionals. Whereas, dental health is preservation of the tooth and preventing or treating various problems of the tooth. According to Taylor of the book ‘qualitative research methods, the public requires a health facility which can also be applied to a dental facility four qualities of their health or dental care system, these are quality, affordability, security and access. A manual based system or a method of collecting and storing data or information using paper, can achieve only few of the four requirements. That’s why people or business owners or in the researcher’s case dental facility owners turn to information technology for support. According to Harrison (2006) of the book entitled â€Å"The role of clinical information systems in health care quality improvement†. It says that the quality of a computer based information system is higher than a manual based system for a manual based system consists of more problems rather than a computer based information system. That is why private sectors, health or dental care providers are moving away from traditional paper based medical or dental records to electronic versions. A dental clinic information system or dental office information system is a system made for owners of dental clinic. This system is only suitable for a dental clinic, dental clinic information system is different from a medical information system for medical covers the medical condition of a patient while dental clinic information system only covers the dental condition of a patient. A dental Information system consists of patient information system, where  the entire patient’s information and a few question regarding their health and dental history are collected and stored. This system excludes the amount of the treatment that has been offered though the treatment is recorded in Patient Information system. A Billing system is where the computation of the amount of each treatment offered to its patient and its total amount. Some even add the usage of credit or debit cards in billing system. A dental information also includes the reservation of appointments to the dentist assigned to the treatment the patient wanted. The researchers decided to make a dental information system in order to reduce or eliminate paper works. Institutional errors, human errors and time cost can be substantially reduced and coordination of each worker will be improved. Background of the Study Manual based system is very often in a newly opened establishment just like Sibulo-Gutierrez dental clinic which opened just last year, 2011. Though the company is passed through generation the Sibulo-Gutierrez just opened its facilities in 2011. The other owners have closed their facilities. A manual based system can be determined when a company or a business uses paper in collecting and storing confidential files. Presently the Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic is still running with the use of a manual based system. The manual processes are; writing the dental information of the patient on an index card; recording the patient information, medical and dental history on a piece of paper; placing the billing information on another separate piece of paper; and on a calendar the scheduled appointments of each dentist. Based on the researchers’ observation, the manual based system of the Sibulo-Gutierrez dental has several problems such as the security measures, efficiency, or time cost, money cost, and reliability. Security measures or control measures for the researchers have observed that even an unauthorized person can access the manual based system of Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic. Efficiency or time cost in a manual based system is noting down of information and this takes time. Money cost for buying bundles of papers would cost a big amount of money. The Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic has a computer inside their clinic that they use for entertainment as what has the researchers observed. If the Dental Clinic will have a computer based information system is money cost will lessen. Reliability is the quality of being dependable. A computer based information system is more reliable compare to a manual based system for in a computer based information system, files will not get easily lose unless the user didn’t save the information correctly. The researchers therefore conclude and decided to propose a Dental Clinic Information System for Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic. The researchers aim to make a system that will contain a patient information system, billing system and appointment reservation system. A patient information system is a system where all the information relating to the patient is recorded and stored. A billing system on the other hand, is a system where the amounts of each treatment are stored and computed. This will also contain the payments made by the patient. And an appointment reservation system contains the appointment made or requested by the patient. These three systems will be connected to each other in terms of the name of the patient and dentist, the treatment made to the patient, and the date. The researchers considered four things in order to say that the system is essential to the dental clinic. One, the quality of the system will help the company for it reduce time and energy in searching such information. Two, affordability for instead of buying tons of paper and index cards, the company only needs a personal computer. And the last two are security and access. Anyone in the company can use the system for it has instructions that can be easily understood by the users. The records and confidential files are also secured for the system has a log in system so that the user can only open and see the records. Scope and limitation The researchers aim to conduct a study of Dental Clinic Information System for Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic. In this chapter, a provision of information regarding the scope and limitation of the researchers’ system will be stated. This will help in knowing the capabilities of the said system and the system’s limitations. The study involves observation on how the manual based system of the company works. The outcome of the observation will help the researchers know what the system would look like. The researchers would like to emphasize more on Dental Clinic Information System wherein there are subsystems which are Patient Information System and Billing System. The patient information system revolves around the recording of the brief patient information, medical and dental history and also recording the patient’s dental check-up and the treatments to be done on the patient. The billing system on the other hand, covers the name of the patient, the treatment made, the dentist’s name who made the treatment the amount of each treatment, and the total amount of all the treatment. The study also covers the listing of appointments of patients to the dentist. The system is limited to the credit or debit cards. The company doesn’t accept credit or debit cards due to various requirements that aren’t met by the company. So with that, the researchers didn’t include credit and debit card processes to the system for it will not be necessary for the company is not necessary. Though the system doesn’t accepts debit or credit cards, they still accepts health cards namely; maxicare, healthwise, intellicare, Filipinodoctors, forturecare, omni, asianlife and philcare. The system does not also have a sign up application; though it has a log in system other user cannot create another account for it. The company only prescribes medicine but does not sells, so the system only contains the prescriptions. The user of the proposed system will be the secretary of the Dental Clinic. The patient will still answer the patient form using the paper, but afterwards the secretary will be the one who will encode the records to the database for the future use and for storing. Statement of the problem This study is intended to design and develop a dental information system for Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic. 1 . What are the problems encountered in the current system of the Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic in terms of the following: a. Recording; b. Billing; and c. Schedule Reservation. 2. What are the features or characteristics to be measured in terms of the following: a. security; b.data accuracy; and c. user-friendly 3. What are the recommendations that the dental clinic can obtain in terms of the following: a. Dentist; b. Patient; and c. Future Reader? Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature Local literature According to Lumbers (2002) a thesisist who made a study entitled, â€Å"a Systematic Enrolment Process Using Database System in Saint John Academy. Calamba, Laguna†. She stated that a database application will increase the efficiency of the enrolment process in the school. In the researchers study, efficiency is one of its aim for the dental clinic lacks efficiency in finding such records. With the use of a database, Information will be recorded properly in a database. And searching such information will be easily found with just one click. According to Lazaro’s(2004)study entitled â€Å"Liceo delos Banos record management system†, confidential records should kept in a database where only authorized person/s can be able to access. The researchers company, Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic, has many confidential files sush as information about the patients and dentists. A log in application where only authorized people know the password and username should be able to access the database. According to Velasco (2002), maintaining records manually is a very difficult task and very time consuming. In his study entitled â€Å"Maulawin National High School Student Information System†, he decided as a resolve to the manual based system of recording files he conducted a computerized system which will lessen or diminish the problem. The researcher’s problems are the same on Velasco’s, and the answer to those problems the researchers proposed a system that will diminish the company’s problem. Foreign Literature Computers are very flexible in terms of usability. Silverman and Turkey stated in their book â€Å"Computer Language†, that computers plays an important role in people’s daily work and leisure activities. Many circumstances a person can think that will need an involvement of a computer such as engineering, manufacturing, scientific and in the researcher’s case business and health care. Business and health care are two important activities for this study for the researchers will do this study for the business of the owners of the dental clinic. And health care for the establishment that will benefit the study is a healthcare institution. The researchers believed that the existence of the computer is a great turning point to people. It does not only concerns large companies but also to the small business who are really willing to put everything a systematic way of managing form a very simple paperwork for the monitoring of customers. According to Alcaira (1999), he stated that using computers will help the person to acquire a new knowledge for the person will not use papers in recording files but a system that is especially made for that company or business. Alcaira also said that handling information manually is conflicting. The researchers will make a system that will be easy to understand and use or access, the person who will use the system is guaranteed that he will not have a hard time figuring things out. The Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic as have said uses a paper Based System. This System will cost more time for the user always needs to rearrange information in a way where it will be easily collected when needed. The researchers considered a computer based system for Hammer (2003) stated that a computer or a computer based system could eliminate the need for copying or rearranging information. Hammer also stated that a computer can do computations in short according to Hammer computer can eliminate most of the paperwork. Porcelain jacket crown- are full porcelain ceramic crowns cover that protects the entire surface of a tooth. 10. Secretary- the user of the system. Chapter 3 Conclusion 1. Based on the researchers study, system and observation various conclusions were sought. The researcher concluded that there are problems on the current system of the Sibulo-Gutierrez Dental Clinic. The researchers saw the problem in recording information, billing and reserving an appointment. The common problems in recording information are money cost for paper is an expensive material especially when an individual uses a large amount every day, time cost for writing consumes a lot time and lack of efficiency for writing as have said consume time. In the billing the common problem is money cost for the paper expenses. In the reservation, the problem is using a calendar which consumes space to the table and not enough space for the information to be written. 2.The researchers included features in the Dental Clinic Information System which corresponds to the three categories namely; security, accuracy and user –friendly. For the security, the researchers include a login application. With this feature the confidential records will be secured to the people who want to access the dental Clinic Information System. For the accuracy, the researchers designated formulas in order to automate the computations in the system. This feature will eliminate the use of calculators. The Dental Clinic Information System has instructions that can be easily understood by the user. This feature is considered user friendly by the researchers for the system with this instructions, won’t be a burden to the user. 3. The researchers can recommend the dental Clinic with our system to other dentists, patients of the said dental clinic and to the future reader of the researchers documentation. The Dentist of other dental clinic can adapt the system so that their encountered problems while they use the manual based system can be omitted. The patients can have less time in visiting the dental clinic. The future reader on the other hand can obtain more knowledge with the researchers documentation. Recommendation Based on the findings and conclusion, the researcher recommends the following: 1. A continues monitoring of system’s efficiency and reliability in meeting its objective shall be taken in place. 2. Possible restructuring or enhancement of the system is recommended, specially on the design interface, enhancement or normalization of the current database. 3. An evaluation is a recommended in order to test if the system did meet the expectations of the Dental Clinic.
